Gwen Davenport (June 20, 1907 – October 18, 2002) was an American author, journalist, and playwright. She was born in New York City and attended Bryn Mawr College. Davenport wrote numerous books, including several novels and biographies. She is perhaps best known for her novel "The Nightingale" which was adapted into a successful Broadway play and later into a film. Davenport also wrote for magazines such as Harper's Bazaar and The New Yorker. She was married to the writer Robert McEnroe, with whom she had two children. Davenport passed away at the age of 95 in 2002 in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
